Personal Environment With our Furniture
Ever since the first caveman sat on a rock, or maybe it was the first cavewoman re-arranging the rocks to better suit her required seating arrangements, it's a fact of life that everyone needs furniture. Whether traditional wood, handcrafted with loving care, or cheap and cheerful designed to be replaced when the fancy takes you, we are surrounded by furniture all our lives.
We create our personal environment with our furniture. Our choice of colours can reflect our personality - or we can use that choice to create an effect. White gives the feeling of space, yellow is sunny and cheerful, reds and orange can give a cosy atmosphere, while blues and greens are restful and can be used most effectively to give an air of serenity to a room.... or we could chose the dramatic statement of black and white. Which ever we chose we say a lot about ourselves in our choices.
Every era in history has its fashions in furniture, because it says so much about us, who we are, our values, standards and way of life. A sofa is more than just a place to sit, a dining table more than just something to support the dinner plates at meal times, our furniture is chosen to suit us, personally. Our furniture not only reflects our personalities, it creates for us the feelings of comfort, security, wellbeing - it is home.
Furniture design has changed a lot over the years some good and some bad, what the next chapter in design holds we will just have to wait and see.
